MoleMate™ Competition Winner

Astron Clinica is pleased to announce that Dr. Mark Palmer from Emscote Road Surgery, Warwick, is the winner of the MoleMate™ competition advertised in the January edition of the New Generalist.

MoleMate™ is a non-invasive, rapid, and painless melanoma screening device that has been specifically designed with and for General Practitioners and skin specialists. By assisting and accelerating the diagnostic process, MoleMate™ enables the medical professional to quickly scan and make a decision to refer a patient, excise a lesion or immediately assure them that their lesion is not suspicious.

“I’m looking forward to using MoleMate™ to improve our referral patterns when looking at pigmented lesions” said Dr. Palmer

Dr Palmer is originally from Edinburgh and studied at St Andrews and Manchester. Surgical training followed in Manchester, Edinburgh and Bristol before becoming a GP in Marple Bridge then Sale and more recently moving to Warwick.

Dr Palmer had been looking into products that would improve diagnostic skills for pigmented lesions and discovered Astron Clinica whilst searching the internet. MoleMate™ seemed like the ideal product thanks to its easy to use interface and scoring system developed specifically for General Practice. Mark is also looking forward to the reassurance MoleMate™ can give to the patient, increasing their confidence in his decision.

Emscote Road Surgery is a long established family practice in the historic town of Warwick, a short distance from Warwick Castle. They have second site at Park Street in Leamington Spa.

MoleMate™ comprises a hand-held scanner and software that uses SIAscopy™, the skin imaging technology that scans and visualises haemoglobin, melanin, dermal melanin and collagen (SIAscans) up to 2mm under the skin. SIAscopy™ provides medical professionals with a wealth of previously unavailable information to assist them in making an instant clinical decision about a lesion during a patient consultation.
