2nd Opinion is part of Astron Clinica's DERMETRICS Skin Imaging Suite - and our first Telemedicine application that adds support for remote clinical assistance and diagnosis to the DERMETRICS platform.

DERMETRICS already provides a powerful suite of applications and tools to capture record and analyse the condition of the skin up to a depth of 2mm - however - in situations where extra clinical opinion is needed for analysis or diagnosis it can be difficult to convey information to a remote expert/clinician.

2nd Opinion is a telemedicine system that ensures detailed information, comprising SIAscans, clinical photographs and patient history are packaged together for despatch to the remote expert. 2nd Opinion monitors progress to ensure that a diagnosis or opinion is returned and recorded with the patient's records in a controlled, timely manner. This workflow management keeps the clinic and the remote clinician/expert synchronised and keeps delay and cost to a minimum.

Adobe Acrobat PDF technology is employed to generate varying reports that encapsulate all the required information for the remote expert to advise whether the patient needs to attend a dermatology clinic - avoiding wasted clinic and patient time. The reports can be transmitted to the remote expert by various methods and are typically small enough to attach to an e-mail making transmission quick and simple. Reports can be customised to suit each application - including or excluding information as needs change.

Using 2nd Opinion the power of SIAscopy can be taken right to the edge of healthcare systems, meaning nurse-led screening programs can gather SIAscans of patients and transmit them for clinical analysis elsewhere. This breaks the traditional tie between the clinic and diagnosis, and means high-end skin scanning can be taken into the field.

2nd Opinion is designed to support all of the DERMETRICS product families and can be used for expert opinion on Melanoma, BCC and all of our skin condition products.
